THE STREET LIFE

We are black naggers On the street full of beggars Life is hard, making most of us waggers Don’t forget most of us are twiggers So we hit the street, so our babies will feed A day sick, the household bleeds So we struggle with all kinds of breeds A few noble ones, the rest full of greed. At sunset, we rush home with our little vittle Though not enough, it's quite a mantle We would watch our babies guttle A sight that sometimes makes us tootle. We do this so our children won’t end up as street urchins Though sometimes we wished to be consumed in our sleep by griffins, Click here We will never give up, even in our pains For our children see us as paladins. TAKE IT BACK

(Dream In Progress)

Do I have to seek clearance before I live my life?
From those who never offered us a chance
So we could live up to the dream quickly? ...Do I?
Now they are part of the doom-casters
Selling our story worldwide in the negative lens
But hey!!!!...we give no room to any PHD (Pull Him Down) holders
We have developed that kinda attitude.
Some call it tough skin
Some call it a proud life
Some call it whatever.
Their opinions do not determine our worth
Life goes on.
Do you know what led to this final part called "Take It Back"? If not, please click here to get yourself sorted for a better understanding.
I’ve got some time to spare
My pen—full of ink to scribe
My lamp—full of oil to burn
My brain—full of words to conjure
And my mouth is full of cooked words to say.

So let’s take it back to those days…
When we had to wait for 7 years before we started schooling
Where were they...?

Take it back to those days…
We had new bend-down boutique clothes only on Christmas Eve.
Where were they?

Take it back to the days…
Of burning the midnight candle to scratch
In order to pass the BECE, since we were not connected to electricity

Take it back to those times…..
We waited eagerly for Daddy,
Before the old coal pot would see charcoal and become warm

Take it back in time to those moments…….
We waited and slept without the cooking pot getting to its job

Take it back to those years…….
The flooded waters became our only regular visitor

Take it back to those days…
We skipped high school days
To save the whole family from intentional dry fasting

Take it back to the times…….
Where debts were like the dreaded bedbug
Oversucking our blood, but we stood immortal

Come, let’s take it back to the times………
We had to toil with our body, soul, and spirits for years
Before we could make it to the tertiary

Yeah, let’s take it back-to-back-to-back to the back times…
Where we knew things would change.
Now we are here with a promising step toward a brighter future…

Behind these fashionably designed fabrics
Behind these smiles, you witness
Behind this body, you observe
Behind this smooth voice, you hear
Behind this face you see,
Are the stories capable of becoming a hit
And a top-grossing Netflix movie
Should they script and play it on our screens.

Be my human judge
I deserve the life I’m living, right?
Where were they?
When I took you back to those times?
They were all missing in action.

So before you stand to criticize,
Take it back to those days….
Where it all began.

  1. Nice piece. Back in the days....
I was on farm land to be able to pay my SHS school fees.

I have to pretend I spent my fees just to save the "face" of my Dad for not paying my fees.

Out of the gloomy smile lies the dreaded story.
    WHERE WERE THEY?
