A piece to remind us of the rainy season.
The clouds have formed
The winds have blown
The thunders have stroked
The curtain raisers have been seen
Few heavy downpours have been witnessed
So how prepared are we?
Soon the land can no longer contain the downpour.
It will start to spit out the excess.
How prepared are we?
My country behaves like an average student
Who tackles AKI-OLA Maths questions; "How Prepared Are You?"
They begin to solve the first 10 to 20 questions very fast and correct.
But then, they get stuck on the way upwards.
So sad and disheartening.
How prepared are we?
Soon, videos and pictures will flood the internet
With people who are standing on rooftop;
Those swimming in the pool of flood;
Cars summersaulting in the waves of the flood;
Properties dancing to the tune of flood.
Then we will begin the solution cycle;
The media would be called;
The NADMO, police, fire service would be called;
The ministers of concerned, MPs, MMCEs,
Assembly members would be called.
In extreme cases the vice president
Or government appointees will visit the scene.
At the scene, they will rattle grammar
Affected persons would be cushion with GH₵10,000.
They will promise a facelift of the drains,
Restructuring of the community by;
Taking down all structures on waterways.
Hearts would calm down.
And eventually the rains would stop.
That is our solution therapy cycle.
We always get stuck up here
Like the average student.
How prepared are we this time around?
Children can no longer play in rain,
For the fear of been swoop away by the runaway water.
And this is ACCRA.
Accra used to be home,
Where we used to run on the street
And bath in the chilled steamy rain;
And watch our breath steamed in the cold air.
Accra was home,
When our streets were not littered
With unplanned layout of structures.
Accra used to be home,
When our drains could easily allow
The passage of runaway waters;
Because there were no plastics and rubbers in it.
Accra was home before we lost lifes to flood.
Accra was home before the dreaded JUNE 3RD.
Who then do we blame now?
Is it the brains, the drains or the rains?
HOW PREPARED ARE WE?
